Why Monsoon Season Is the Riskiest Time for Your Plot
Encroachment attempts spike 3x between June–September. Here's the science, the data, and what you can do before the rains begin.
The Monsoon Encroachment Pattern
Every year, PlotPolice agents document a sharp spike in encroachment attempts between June and September. This is not a coincidence — there are specific reasons the monsoon season is the most dangerous time for absentee plot owners.
Reason 1: Dense Vegetation Provides Cover
Fast-growing monsoon grass and vegetation creates natural cover for initial encroachment. A temporary structure or a wall extension is much harder to spot from photos when surrounded by dense green cover.
Reason 2: Reduced Visits
Many owners avoid visiting their plots during monsoon due to difficult road conditions, waterlogging, and general inconvenience. Mafia networks know this.
Reason 3: Emergency Construction Loophole
In some municipal jurisdictions, temporary monsoon shelters are allowed. This legal grey area is exploited to plant "temporary" structures that later become permanent.
Reason 4: Flood and Drainage Disputes
Heavy rains create natural boundary disputes — where does runoff go? These disputes are used to create confusion about boundary lines.
Pre-Monsoon Checklist (May–June)
- Physical visit before the rains — document the clear boundary
- Install boundary fencing — even basic barbed wire is a strong deterrent
- Ensure PlotPolice board is visible and not obscured by vegetation
- Clear vegetation inside the boundary
- Photograph all four boundary corners with GPS timestamps
Plots that are clearly marked and recently visited are significantly less likely to be targeted during monsoon.
